Lugano is a city in the south of Switzerland, in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy. Surrounded by mountains of Lugano Prealps and a splendid lake, Lugano brings together all the characteristics of a metropolis of great style despite maintaining the traits of a small city. The city is home to a number of historic buildings and museums including 17 sites that are part of the Swiss heritage site of national significance. The areas in Lugano of most interest to tourists are Cathedral of Saint Lawrence dated on 15th century, Bibliotheca and Museo cantonale d’arte with an amazing collection of Swiss artworks and Palzzo civico located in the centre of Piazza delle Riforma. In addition to the historic sites and museums, this southern Swiss city offers number of natural excursion including excursions through the Lugano’s most beautiful parks and gardens, boat ride on the Lugano’s lake as well as guided visit of Mount Brè, which is reputedly Switzerland’s sunniest spot and is also home to the old village of Brè, known for its “Path of Art” with notable artists.

EXCURUSION 1 – Lugano’s parks and gardens Exhibition

The parks and garden tour takes visitors on a plunge into the city’s greenest areas. The itinerary leads through the lake to the new Cultural Centres construction LAC. The main highlights of this excursion are Ciani Park and Belvedere Garden, which are located at the halfway mark along Lake Lugano offering a wonderful panoramic view of the gulf. This area is enhanced by numerous sculptures by well-known artists from the region, which are set in the middle of lawns and flowerbeds replanted to reflect the changing seasons. Following along the shore, the excursion ends at the Ciani Park, the largest city park and one of the most important in Switzerland with the flowers whose colours harmonize and blend with the shades of the lake and the surrounding landscape.

EXCURUSION 2 – Mount Brè Exhibition

Monte Brè is a small mountain located to east of Lugano on the flank of Monte Boglia. It is considered one of the sunniest points in Switzerland. The easiest way to get on the top is with a cable car which has offered transport from Lugano Cassarate to Monte Brè since 1912. Mount Brè offers a magnificent view of the lake, the city, and Mount Rosa. The enchanting village of Brè, located in walking distance from the arrival point, is a typical example of Ticinese architectural with its stone houses and traditional communal washing fountain “Lavatoio”. The village is home to Wilhelm Schmid Museum and contains a collection of his works. Brè is proud of the artistic trail and includes the works of more than twenty acclaimed artists.

EXCURUSION 3 – Piazza Dante, City center Exhibition

In the form of a walk through the center of Lugano, this excursion lets visitors discover the traditional and cultural aspects of the city. Navigating through the characteristic narrow streets of Lugano, this tour explores the architectural monuments of the past show casing the work of contemporary Ticinesi architects. The route goes through Piazza della Riforma, via Canova Piazza San Rocco, Quartiere Maghetti and Biblioteca Cantonale and makes its way to the Chiesa di Sant’Antonio from the XIII century and the Piazza Dante located at the heart of the shopping district with its many bars and side galleries.

EXCURUSION 4 – Lugano Lake and mountains Exhibition

The lake, named after the city of Lugano, is situated between Lake Como and Lago Maggiore. Well known mountains and tourist destinations on the shores of the lake are Monte Brè east, Monte San Salvatore west of Lugano and Monte Generoso on the south-east shore. The World Heritage Site Monte San Giorgio is situated south of the lake. The Navigation Society of the Lake of Lugano offers many opportunities to spend wonderful moments on board its boats and to visit enchanting towns and villages through a variety of cruises to visit romantic landscapes, climb mountains, spend time in museums, and taste local cuisine food served in various restaurants and “grotti” situated along the lake’s shores for an unforgettable nature experience.
