Meet the Music: Open Call for Works

Virutale Switzerland

The Virtuale Switzerland – the worlds 1st completely virtual biennale- invites composers to join in on the project “Meet the Music”. The project gives composers a unique opportunity to create and present their work. The project takes a step forward by offering composers something more than a just stage; it offers them a new way to come in contact with music lovers by making the works available by placing them into virtual space using Augmented Reality techniques.

Silhouette images of the composers or performers are spread out in public space and placed using GPS coordinates. Using an a mobile phone and an downloadable applications, each of the silhouette images can be seen through any mobile device when the user of the device is at the geographic location where one of the silhouettes has been placed. As a group, the silhouette link together to form a walk that can be enjoyed as a musical parcours. Anyone and everyone can click in and hear the music by using their mobile phones in new ways to actually “meet the music”.

Composers interested in participating are asked to submit a short composition for a solo instrument as a Dance Macabre. The composition should be constructed out of 12 phrases which can be combined ad lib to form the completed composition. The phrases that make up the compositions should be of a similar average length and the total of the combined phrases should not last more than 90 seconds. The phrases will be combined by those persons interested in listening to your work. This is accomplished using a mobile application that stores the phrases and allows the user to chose, arrange and repeat shuffle them as they want.
